The Tree Guard is an Ent boss intended for evil-aligned players to fight. He is a stronger version of a normal Ent and follows the boss mechanics.

The Tree Guard can spawn with different names, suggesting that he is a dominant Ent rather than one character. He glows and does not attack people with positive Ent alignment, when not angered.

Defeating the Tree Guard will earn you the achievement "Wrath of the Forest" and also give you the title "Master Entslayer" and the Entslayer's Shield.

Summoning[]

Tree guard2

A Tree Guard being summoned.

To summon him in survival mode, you need to place a normal Elm sapling on a dirt, grass or podzol block in Taur-im-Duinath orin Nan-tathren and right-click it with Corrupted light (this can only be done if you have negative Ent alignment), creating a corrupt Elm sapling. You can also plant a corrupted Elm sapling, if you manage to get it from somewhere else (you could steal or buy it from another player on the server for example). You don't need negative Ent alignment to plant it, neither for the summoning itself. You should do this in or close to Taur-im-Duinath,Nan-tathren forest, as you need some Ents nearby for the next step.

Then, some Ents will appear next to it and try to cure the corrupted sapling. Three Ents have to be killed in order for the Tree Guard boss to spawn. Keep in mind that the Ents must attempt to heal the sapling in order to count towards the summoning. Upon being summoned, he will say one of the following lines:

  • Who dares defile the golden trees of Laurelindórenan? Be you Man, Dwarf, or Morgoth-spawn, your doom has now come!
  • Little Orcs! Mischief! The trees cry out for help! And I have heard... hroom hroom, I have heard, and I awake!
  • Trees of Tauremornalómë, my brothers and sisters, let us awaken and defend these lands!
  • You do a great wickedness against the trees of Laurenandë! I shall crush you like a rock, little one!

Laurelindórenan and Laurenandë are old Quenya names given to Lothlórien by the Noldor. Tauremornalómë is an old Quenya name for Fangorn forest.

In creative mode, you can plant a corrupted sapling and use spawn eggs for the three Ents or the boss can be summoned using the command:

/lotr_summon lotrfa.EntBoss

Once you summon it, a green health bar similar to the Ender Dragon's appears at the top of the screen.

Abilities[]

The Tree Guard can summon Ents and Huorns, and can also send a whirlwind of leaves towards evil players and NPC's. It can jump considerably high, and heal by "absorbing" the essence of trees, so choose a clearing or chop down some trees before summoning him, to deprive him of this ability.

Tree guard1

A Tree-Guard jumping into the air.

After emptying its health bar for the first time, it will say one of the following phrases:

  • I call upon the blessing of Yavanna! Shelter my bark from axes and blades!
  • O Kementári, hear me! Strengthen me against the iron-bite of this little Orc!
  • By the grace of Yavanna, your axes cannot fell me, little one!

Kementári is a name for Yavanna, the creator of the Ents.

It will then begin to glow green and gain what seems to be infinite health. At this stage, fire is the only way to hurt it, as it seems immune to any pure physical damage.

Combat[]

As ents are more vulnerable to axes or battleaxes than swords or other weapons, it is recommended to use these. Fire will also be necessary to weaken the boss and do significant damage. Flint and steel, sulphur matches, lava, or if possible, a weapon with fire aspect are recommended(notice that flame of Udun can't be obtain in suvival). Be careful you do not end up burning the loot you intend to get. While not required, it is recommended that you have some good armour and maybe some athelas or orc draught. For the end of the boss fight you might want one or more stacks of Angband Fire-pots.

Tree Guards do not destroy blocks, as opposed to Hill Troll Chieftains. This makes them much easier of a boss to kill and to farm. You can set up an arena, trap or farm to kill them. Keep in mind this will need to be in or near in Taur-im-Duinath orin Nan-tathren as you require Ents to kill to summon him.

Rewards[]

Upon death he drops around half a stack each of Elm wood ,some sticks and different type of wood log, an Utumno weapon or armor piece (100% chance), and a Mallorn Ent trunk as a trophy.

If you have more than 1000 Ent alignment, you'll lose 1000 by killing him, otherwise your positive Ent alignment will be set to zero. If you've got negative alignment in advance, you'll lose another 50 points.
